Over the years, EIGCA Bronze Partner Turfgrass have had the privilege to work on various golf projects assisting Golf Course Architects to improve maintenance efficient, helping both the economic and environmental sustainability of a golf course.
Bunker renovations and maintained turf area reductions have become synonymous with golf course renovations. Turfgrass add scientific expertise into making it even more efficient to maintain these courses to the highest standard, for the reputation of the course and the legacy of the architect.
Turfgrass, the Golf Development Company, are conveniently working on such a project on their doorstep, Druids Heath, situated in what is commonly known as “the Garden of Ireland” in Wicklow, just south of Dublin, Ireland.
Working alongside, EIGCA Member Jeff Lynch, of (re)Golf, they are reducing bunker areas from 14,000m2 to 2,500m2 on this championship course. Turfgrass are also working with Jeff to upgrade the grass specie, remove maintained turf areas and plant vegetation such as gorse, heather and fescue, to enhance the heathland aspect. The result of these works mean that maintained turf areas will be reduced by about 15% with bunkering down by circa 80%, giving a significant reduction in man hours which can be focused elsewhere for conditioning, while creating over five hectares of wildlife corridors for improved flora and fauna.
“(re)Golf and Turfgrass have partnered on many successful projects over the past few years. Our most recent collaboration in Druids Heath focuses on adding value to the course and we are doing this be delivering a handcrafted landscape for the environment and the golfer. Turfgrass’s experience and professionalism makes it a pleasure to work with, as they always bring a different perspective and fresh thinking”, confirms Jeff Lynch from (re)Golf.
