Turfgrass to improve Basingstoke Golf Club’s new course

A golf club has partnered with a turf management consultancy to help realise its vision and deliver high-quality playing conditions.

Basingstoke Golf Club in Dummer has brought in Turfgrass to provide specialist agronomy consultancy and interim course management support as it settles into its newly developed 18-hole, par-72 downland course, part of a £20m transformation.

The club’s greenkeeping team, led by new course manager Jake Field, will work with Turfgrass over the next three years.

David Green, general manager at Basingstoke Golf Club, said: “We’re very pleased to have partnered with Turfgrass and are confident that they will help us to deliver outstanding conditions for our members and guests as the course continues to bed-in and mature.”

Turfgrass will focus on improving turf performance and surface consistency on tees, fairways and greens, with the support expected to guide the course through its early stages.

Julian Mooney, director of agronomy at Turfgrass, said: “We are delighted to partner with the team at Basingstoke Golf Club, guiding the Creeping Bentgrass management programme and supporting the course’s early maturation, ensuring it meets the expectations of a busy membership.”

Basingstoke Golf Club relocated to Dummer in 2021 and launched an 18-hole championship downland course in autumn 2024.
