Dunas Golf Course, located just an hour south of Lisbon, is a stunning 18-hole course designed by renowned architect David McLay-Kidd. Inspired by the Links courses of Scotland, it seamlessly integrates with the natural beauty of the surrounding beaches and pine forests. Since its opening in 2023, Dunas has quickly become one of Portugal’s leading golf courses. Winning 2024 ‘World’s Best Golf Course’ by World Golf Awards. In addition, The Dunas Course was also named as ‘Europe’s Best Golf Course’ and ‘Europe’s Best Eco-Friendly Golf Facility.
Turfgrass® was commissioned by 54 to provide specialised agronomy support to the Golf course aimed at enhancing the management of fescue grass types on site. While the course boasts a world-class design that rivals top destinations globally, it sought enhanced guidance to maintain the health and performance of its fescue. Our engagement focused on four key areas: restoring fescue density and health, increasing surface firmness and rooting, elevating course presentation and consistency and managing Poa annua populations.
Our specific strategic deliverables included course inspections supported by team calls and ongoing remote assistance to review progress and adjust strategies. We provide comprehensive agronomy reports following each inspection, offering tailored advice on Integrated Pest Management, irrigation, nutrient programmes and more, further strengthening our collaboration.
By collaborating closely with the golf course team and focusing on developing and implementing together, structured, targeted strategies, Terras da Comporta – Dunas Golf Course is well-positioned to secure its spot as a premier golfing destination.
